To some, #vanlife is about living minimally, akin to the obsession with tiny houses or the @近藤麻理恵 method of tidying up, but on wheels. Or it’s a direct response to the housing crisis, a way to reduce the cost of living or a push against the pull of corporate life. “I started because I was paying too much in rent and the work that I was in didn’t really have job security so I wanted something that I could manage my money better with,” says Matthew Mcbroom (@amerivan_traveler), photographed here by @jfpetersphoto in Eugene, Ore. “I’m being able to do stuff with that money like come out here and kayak and mountain bike because I’m not putting the money towards someone else's dreams—I’m putting the money towards my own dream.” Read more on TIME.com.
