A Rohingya refugee helps his mother to stand up after she fell, hungry and exhausted by the long journey travelling across Rakhine state and the border between Myanmar and Bangladesh.
In the past 5 weeks, about 500,000 Rohingya Muslims, an ethnic minority group, have fled their homes in Myanmar in what the United Nations human rights chief has called “a textbook example of ethnic cleansing.”
The conflict erupted on Aug. 25, after a Rohingya militant group attacked army security posts in the country’s west coast state of Rakhine.
The rohingya, often called the most persecuted minority in the world, have been facing discrimination in Myanmar for decades.
