Heatherwick Studio has breathed new life into a disused grain silo on Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, converting it into @zeitzmocaa, the continent’s first museum of contemporary art. Its main architectural draw is the atrium – an organically shaped void carved out of concrete tubes that once stored grain from throughout South Africa. As Heatherwick himself tells us, this was ‘a destruction project, not a construction project. Our job was more about careful removal than addition.'
