While playing around with old friends in the #Rocklands it was impossible not to see the impact the climate change has on this region! South Africa recorded the driest year in over a century! Western Cape government has declared the entire province a disaster area in order to deal with the ongoing drought that has plagued the province for most of the year. I was therefore even more surprised about the careless way some climbers remove plants and cut trees without even thinking of the consequences it has in such a delicate environment. There is probably more information directed to climbers needed to learn about the importance of the fragile fynbos and the trees in this area. Fragile, because Fynbos is easily destroyed or radically altered by human activities. And with no water it can't just grow back... Now two weeks of work on new shoes and then back to more fun with my friends!
