I have been in love with these mountains since my first backpacking trip when I was 14. Some years I've spent months wandering in them, learning how to navigate with no trail, how to scramble over talus fields and stomp up sun cupped snow fields. Other years, like this one, I just gaze in at them from their flanks. Always, I dream of them & pay attention to their blanket of winter snow, the health of the forests, the numbers of hikers on their trails, the bug & wildflower booms & busts.
