Photo by @Tim Laman. The purpose of all these beautiful plumes on the male Goldie’s Bird of Paradise is simply to impress the females, and here you can see a female coming in for a close-up inspection. Actually it is female choice – the females choosing to mate with the males that have the most beautiful plumes who pass those traits to their offspring – that has led to these amazing ornaments in the males. So the females are really the ones in charge (but I think us males knew that). Photographed on Fergusson Island, Papua New Guinea. @BirdsofParadiseProject, #CornellLabofOrnithology, #Endangered, #birdsofparadise, #birdofparadise, #birds, @natgeocreative, @thephotosociety.
For all my shots with big telephoto lenses like this, I’m always using a tripod, and I’ve been relying on Gitzo tripods for years. @GitzoInspires, #GitzoInspires, #sponsored.
