The internationally acclaimed @samantha.togni and her music video- ‘#QueenNemesis’ take the centre stage today.
Forever a muse of the fashion world, Samantha has travelled the globe DJing an intoxicating mix of genres- #Trap, #Moombathon, #Electro #House, #FutureHouse- the list goes on. So it was no surprise to see her champion and revive one of the greatest cult films of all time in the video for contemporary eyes- 1979’s #TheWarriors. If the name is not familiar to you- the film perfectly encapsulates the darker, violent shadows of New York in seventies. In fact, the book it was based on, written by Sol Yurick, was written as a retaliation to the rosy, idealised gangs of West Side Story. NYC was a city that was diseased with gangs, crime and brutality- so much so that the film crew had to enlist the help of ‘Gang Advisor’. To avoid unwittingly wandering onto contested turf- dressed as pretend gang members- the advisor would guide them as what was whose and where not to go. Their film trucks were ‘protected’ by the infamous Mongrels gang for $500 a day. The entire film was marred with violence- from production to release, the film was disrupted with harrowing and brutal tales of the real world it mimicked.
