A #WhiteBackedVulture patiently perched on a cold and rainy day in #GonarezhouNationalPark #Zimbabwe - These birds heavily rely on their sense of smell to find carrion and can smell food from miles away. They are currently listed as critically endangered, primarily due to loss of habitat and in many cases unintentional poison from pesticides and poisons in livestock. These poisons are added to livestock, safe to them, but deadly to hyenas and lions that hunt them. These incidental killings to the vultures is taking its toll, their roll is necessary to a thriving ecosystem.
