"It's not often you look across a landscape that's changing before your very eyes. Yes, seasons change, glaciers ebb and flow, and landscapes evolve in time. But with a warming climate, Alaska is changing rapidly because of us. As I sat on the rim of this mountain overlooking Matanuska Glacier, a 27 mile long by 4 mile wide ancient river of ice, I couldn't help but feel a bit overwhelmed by the thought that this scene might disappear in the next 20-30 or 40 years. Think about the people who sat on a bluff watching the massive bison herds of the American prairie fade before their very eyes, or the folks who stood on the banks of California's great rivers while the last epic runs of king salmon came and went for the last time. It's a sobering thought. And I guess more than anything, realizing these views, landscapes and the glaciers that bleed life and cold water into them has an expiration date just like the salmon and bison did.

If that's not inspiration to use our voice, time, energy and resources to curb the tide of warming seasons that are stripping the natural rhythms from Alaska and so many other places we love, I don't know what is." Words and photo by @charles_post.
