After over half a century of harsh military dictatorship, Myanmar was granted to host the most important sports event in South East Asia, the SEA Games. In December 2013, the leading athletes from 11 countries gathered in Myanmar for the first time to compete. Myanmar came in second place with a total of 233 medals, including gold medals in the first ever-bodybuilding competition in Myanmar.
