Expectations turn up in many forms from what we expect of ourselves to what others expect of us and we of them. I had a run in with a monk in Thailand last week. He looked me right in the eyes and threw his arms up into the air and said you must let go. You have so many expectations which creates an illusion of control of your world and will lead to disappointment. And as he tossed his fists in the air it took every ounce of my being not to cry because what he said rang so true. I'm back home and I found this photo of him, which I will keep close to me to remind me that I must hold my gratitude higher than my expectations and to be in the present moment not defined by expectation but be mindful, empathetic and have a heart full of love. #thankful #wisemonk
