President Trump addressed the violence in Charlottesville, Va., on Aug. 12 that erupted after white nationalists descended on the city to protest plans to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. Clashes between white nationalists and counter-protesters turned deadly in the afternoon after a car mowed into a group of people, resulting in one death and at least 19 injuries.⠀

During remarks in Bedminster, N.J., Trump condemned the “egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides.” He added that law and order must return to Charlottesville and that the situation will be studied to “see what we’re doing wrong as a country where things like this can happen.”⠀
