"It was a brutal final 2,000-foot climb up the gravel slopes of Acatenango to the summit. The freezing winds were howling and chilling us to the bone, but as the sun crept above the horizon, we could feel its warmth. As we watched the sun rise slowly over the valley below, Acatenango's sister volcano, Fuego, emerged from the clouds and erupted with a huge plume of rocks and ash. It was a truly amazing experience.
