Falconry, the sport of hunting using trained birds of prey, became a popular activity among Japanese courtiers during the tenth century. The sport was increasingly associated with the military, and falcons and hawks were often used as a symbol of power. Hunting is a complex topic featured in many of @michaelnicknichols photographs and highlight humanity’s often challenging relationship to the natural world. See this Japanese folding screen along with Nichols’ photographs in #MichaelNicholsWild, on view now through September 17. #AWildLife
