On this day in 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt established Mesa Verde #NationalPark in #Colorado to "preserve the works of man." It was the first national park of its kind, created to protect not just the natural beauty of the area but also the priceless cultural treasures found there. #MesaVerde preserves nearly 5,000 archeological sites, including Cliff Palace, the largest cliff dwelling in the park. Visitors can explore these ancient buildings and imagine what life was like for the people who built them.
