We spent today at @nhmla for our Heal the Bay staff retreat! The morning was packed with idea-storming around how we could expand @smpieraquarium... so.many.ideas. In the afternoon, we were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at what life is like managing a large-scale collection of preserved species (and DNA) at the Natural History Museum of #LosAngeles County. It was interesting to explore the innovative methods scientists and collection curators use to approach the identification of species through genetic barcoding and eDNA as well as the traditional methods of #taxonomy for classification. Makes us wonder what species identification will be like ~100 years from now as a result of more advanced citizen science, AI and automation!? Thank you to everyone at #NHMLA for teaching us so much. We left feeling inspired! #Collaboratory #NoFilter
