Today is the start of #VolunteersWeek, an annual celebration of the contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK. To mark the occasion we are letting Tate volunteers take over our Instagram account for the week. Follow along as our volunteers share their favourite artworks from the Tate collection and give their thoughts on why they love volunteering.

First up is Felix, who is a Guide at Tate Modern and Tate Britain. Felix has lived in Pimlico since 1983 and started volunteering at Tate Britain three years ago. During that time he has seen changes in himself, growing in confidence and gaining a new appreciation for art.

Felix’s favourite artwork is: William Holman Hunt, Our English Coasts 1852. “It’s the first artwork that really caught my eye at Tate and made me want to stay. It’s so beautiful with such vibrant colours that really evoke the smell of the English coast, with a rich allegory about the country at the time.”
