In 2009 my family and I took a trip to Orlando, it was a year after our son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes- he was two years old. While in Orlando we went to dinner at ESPN Zone, and I met a young man, a host at the restaurant, who was excited to meet us. He had been living with T1D all his life and was thankful that we were able to help bring more attention to the cause and most importantly to give parents the warning signs. I asked him if he liked his job- he said, which one? He worked four jobs. I stupidly assumed it was because he was in school. Wow- I wish he said. No, I work four jobs to pay for my insulin. Without it, I die. And having to make the choice between insulin and food is a choice I can't afford to have to make. This was pre Affordable Care Act- when anyone could be refused insurance or deemed "uninsurable" for pre-existing conditions. Yesterday the House voted on their new plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Maybe you aren't phased by this because it doesn't affect you personally, and that's ok, it's honest. But, look at the list. We all love someone affected by one of these conditions- on the off chance that you don't; please use your voice to fight for those that can't fight for themselves. Because even if you aren't affected now; there's a possibility someday you or someone you love may be affected in the future and will need someone to speak up for you- by then it might be too late. #unity, #resist, #followthemoney, #callyoursenator, #24MillionAmericansWillBeWithoutHealthcare, #diabetesactivist, #activistforallhumans, #speakupforeveryonenotjustyourgroup, #onepeople, #humanity
