Photograph by George Steinmetz @geosteinmetz Spring comes late to the Kubuqi Desert of Inner Mongolia, so the herdsmen take their flocks into the dunes to search for the first grasses of spring. This part of China has seen something rare in the desert, a comeback of greenery, the result of intensive plantings to reach groundwater and soil that lie beneath the sands.
