[@bpatrickflynn] Here's a decorating trick I use to minimize the presence of dated popcorn or stippled effect ceilings: I paint the walls and the ceilings in the same soft shades of 'new neutrals' such as sage green, blue-gray, green-gray, greige or aloe [pictured here]. This doesn't get rid of the texture for good, but it allows you to prolong messy removal until you're good and ready to deal with it.
