i found myself completely alone in the walled gardens of @loughrynncastle - something of a gift after a long day of travel - only the crunch of peastone under foot breaking the solitude- I wandered the boxwood lined beds, herbs and currant bushes nestled in amongst them. admiring topiary, flowers and fountains. the fruit trees, espalier, in full bloom - pale and blush against the exceptionally warm weather worn walls - perhaps it was the jet lag but it was as if time had been suspended inside this garden - I love the way a garden can do that. And in this particular garden, a rare harmony in the cultivated, the created and the gentle landscape beyond - an elegance in the lightness of it all - I took plenty of notes and reference images - tucking away ideas for future gardens at the city cottage - of course it would all have to be in miniature and the only views are of the backs of the neighboring houses - but still, inspiration abound
Any good recommendations for books on the gardens of Europe? I think I'm hooked now
