It’s #NationalZipperDay, which honors this ingenious device invented in the late 1800s. By the 1930s, zippers had many uses—even as side fasteners on women’s underpants. The zipper on these novelty panties, however, has an unusual feature: a small padlock is attached to playfully emphasize the embroidered message, “No No a Thousand Times No.” "No! No! A Thousand Times No!" was the title of a 1934 melodramatic song and a 1935 film starring Betty Boop. Woman’s Step-Ins with Lock, 1935-8, by Adso Undergarment Co.
