The photographer @meridithkohut took this video today in #Caracas, Venezuela, where protesters have been filling the streets to demand elections and a return to democratic rule. The average Venezuelan must wait in long lines for bread and medicine, and many are going hungry and unpaid, as the government struggles to avert default. Yesterday, National Guard troops and government-aligned militias beat crowds back with tear gas, rubber bullets and other weapons, and at least 3 people were killed, according to human rights groups and news reports. Today, General Motors became the latest in a wave of international companies that have shut their doors voluntarily or under duress in #Venezuela, which was once among the most lucrative markets in Latin America for foreign businesses.
