At today's #RoyalMaundy service The Queen will distribute Maundy money to 91 men and 91 women – one for each of Her Majesty's 91 years.

Each recipient of special Maundy money from The Queen today will be given two leather purses, one red and one white, ‪in recognition for their contribution to their community and to the church‬. Dishes containing the purses are then prepared by the Royal Almonry, at Leicester Cathedral.

The Maundy coins, a ceremonial gift from the Sovereign, are legal tender but recipients normally prefer to retain them as a keepsake.
