Photos by @renan_ozturk // This is what one of the steepest ice climbs on the planet looks like. @bookofsamuel climbed it without a fall but won't give it a grade. This kind of glacial ice is a different type of endeavor, more of a creative process where you 'construct' your climb by pre-setting the ice screws and icepick placements by using your longest ice screw. There is no way you could even swing into the ice on this near horizontal roof without doing it this way, the physics just don't work out. After it was built sam's execution was a ballet of 'figure-4' and 'figure-9' movements in which he swung his leg over his arms to leverage to the next pick placement, balancing power and grace. And of course like pictured here, the occasional full leg cut out! ~
