In turn of the 20th century Japan, one woman stood out among a sea of conservative male artists: Noguchi Shōhin. Painting in a traditional literati style, her works were shown internationally, and she became the first woman appointed as an official artist to the Imperial Household. In this landscape, Shōhin illustrates a poem, the last line reading, “The autumn mountains return to their bright luster.” #WomensHistoryMonth #5womenartists
