Last April, the Department of Treasury announced that #HarrietTubman would replace Andrew Jackson on the front of the $20 bill.

The abolitionist and former slave who was a leader of the Underground Railroad will become the first African-American featured on U.S. paper currency and the first woman on paper currency in a century.

She ran away from her owners in 1849 but returned repeatedly to Maryland to lead members of her family and others to freedom, about 70 individuals in all. Nicknamed Moses, she guided them through the wilderness, using stars to navigate, and hid in friendly homes along the route north. Tubman also served as a spy and a nurse for the Union Army during the Civil War. In addition she led troops in a raid that freed over 750 slaves.
