This is a superbly detailed close-up of an 18th-century astronomical clock, photographed by @gervasio.perez. Clocks like this were made to demonstrate the wealth and knowledge of their upper class owners, and often featured breathtakingly complex dials. They were able to give information about the solar and lunar cycles, as well as tell the time. This clock face shows saints’ days around the edge, the constellations of the zodiac, and a map of the world centred on the north pole in the middle.
