Gold Standard: Gold was of huge significance to French artist Yves Klein, who integrated the resplendent metal, both a precious and a symbolic material, into his compositions to create one of his most significant bodies of work: the monogolds. In the artist's own words:"Gold impregnates the painting and gives it eternal life”. This monogold work hasn't been seen in public since it was given to the family of the present owner during the year of its creation, 1959.
