@Robert Clark
Happy Darwin Day! 207 Years ago Charles Darwin was born. Today is an international Celebration of his scientific genius and to commemorate the anniversary of his birth and to promote science in general. Darwin Day is celebrated around the world. One could argue that science is under attack in most countries around the globe.

In 2004 I was able to work on a story, "Was Darwin Wrong" for @ナショナルジオグラフィック, that was the beginning of my real interest in Evolutionary Biology.

The above tortoise from the Galapagos, was photographed at the #SanDiegoZoo. The lava dome islands that Darwin famously visited became a bedrock of his #TheoryofEvolution.

Galapagos Tortoises are the giants of the tortoises world. Males might weigh more then 500 pounds, and females average about 250 pounds. With sturdy legs to hold up all that weight they still spend a lot of time lying down to conserve energy.
One thing that caught Darwin's eye was that each of the 13 larger islands in the Galápagos Islands had a slightly different form of giant tortoise. The enormous tortoise (Chelonoidis nigra) was once so numerous that Spanish explorers of the region named the #Galapagos archipelago after its extraordinary inhabitant; 'galapagos' means 'tortoise' in Spanish.
