The Shah Cheragh, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Iran, is a stunning mausoleum with an interior that dazzles like a light show. Adorned with thousands of multi-colored pieces of tile and glass, the mosque lives up to its name, a Persian term translating to “King of the Light.” Its shimmering adornments came at the behest of Queen Tash Khan in the 14th century, who envisioned a shrine that intensified any light a thousand times over. It functions as a funerary monument, a mosque and a beautiful holy place for thousands of worshippers.
