Did you know the first #computermouse was made from a single block of wood? The wood was hollowed out to house a metal case from which protrude two metal wheels.⠀
⠀
This is a replica of the original mouse designed and built by Doug Engelbart and Bill English at Stanford Research Institute and was named the ‘X-Y Position Indicator for a Display System’. It was nicknamed the mouse because of its tail.⠀
⠀
In 1967 Engelbart applied for and received a patent for his 'X-Y position indicator for a display system' but the patent expired in 1987 before the personal computer revolution. He never received any royalties for his invention. ⠀
⠀
See it on display in #Interface at #PowerhouseMuseum. #MAAScollection #design #industrialdesign
