GE and the SouthWest Research Institute have been working on a small turbine that could have a big impact. The new 10MW SunShot turbine uses supercritical CO2, instead of steam, to create a compact and potent power generator. The balance piston hole pattern seal photographed here is used to control the thrust load on the #turbine and increase the rotordynamic stability of the system. Just one of the ways the turbine can potentially power 2,000 homes while still being small enough to sit atop an office desk. Check out our Instagram Story for more information.
