President Obama has designated new national monuments recognizing the country’s civil rights history -- The Reconstruction Era, Freedom Riders, and Birmingham Civil Rights National Monuments. He also further protected the existing Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument in Oregon and the California Coastal National Monument, celebrating our country's beautiful places.

The designations accompany a presidential memorandum to increase diversity and community outreach across land management agencies to help ensure our parks and public lands are more inclusive and welcoming to people from all walks of life.
