Here's a little peek into the process behind one of my new paintings, "Our God - Fugen Bosatsu" for my show opening January 21st @coreyhelfordgallery. ??? She is a bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism associated with practice and meditation. First, I draw a sketch with pencil, which I then fix and color in digitally, before copying it onto the final canvas and painting it.
This is part of a new series I'm calling "Our God", featuring motifs of the Buddah Kannon. In the mythology of my work, she is a god that appears at the demise of the human race. She is the god of our generation,drawn to look like the magical girl character of Japanese comic books.
