Monitoring solar activity to defend against devastating particle storms … EISCAT (the European Incoherent Scatter Scientific Association) operates three incoherent scatter radar systems in northern Scandinavia and one on Svalbard. The systems are used to study the interaction between the Sun and the Earth as revealed by disturbances in the ionosphere and magnetosphere. The system has also been tested for space debris tracking of low-Earth-orbit debris down to 2cm in size. Follow @simonnorfolkstudio for updates, outtakes, unpublished and archive material.
