The Christmas tree in our Castle gets a different theme each year, and this one is all about the poinsettia.
Fun fact about poinsettias and the Smithsonian: Joel Poinsett, the botanist and statesman who introduced the plant to the U.S. from Mexico, was the first to say we should be a national museum.
Many debated what to do with the money and vague guidance in James Smithson's will to create a "Smithsonian Institution" for the "increase and diffusion of knowledge." It was the poinsettia's namesake who argued for a museum as part of the Smithsonian.
