Magnum's documentation of the migrant crisis is part of a longstanding commitment to bear witness to and report upon the events that shape human history. Today, Magnum photographers select and discuss the images that have come to best represent the crisis, as well as the wider current global situation, in their eyes. Link in bio. “This image is part of a larger project that explores elements of theatre in scenes of reality. My initial inspiration for this project was the work of Italian playwright Luigi Pirandello, whose plays challenged the audience’s ability to discern reality from illusion on stage.” PHOTO: A Syrian refugee woman desperately searching for her two year old child which she lost on the journey to Pireus from Lesbos. While I was photographing the refugees coming into the port, I noticed this woman who was desperately searching for her lost child and was surprised to see her leave without having found her. She was faced with a hard decision: choosing to leave a child behind and carry on her journey for her other children’s sake or lose the bus that would take her to the next checkpoint of her journey.
