This morning my 7yo complained that there was "nothing" to put in his lunchbox even though I spent way too much money on groceries yesterday. I told him he could put in "whatever he wanted" and he said, "So I can make a hamburger for my lunch" in the littlest snarky voice you ever did hear. "What? You said I could have whatever I wanted." I calmly gave him four options while my husband tried not to laugh. If we had more time, there probably would have been two lectures: one on food and gratitude, the other on sassing your momma!
