Today I would like to share Eric's story. I was his counselor at Camp Oakes this summer, in a camp for people with disabilities. Differently than most of the campers, that were born with some sort of disability, Eric had a healthy life until he was my age, 29. Unfortunately, due to an accident where a tool fell on his head while he was at work, he developed a brain disease (I don't remember exactly his diagnosis) that made him shrink slowly. Now he is 46, in a wheel chair, needs supository to "number 2", needs help to clean after it, to move from and to the wheel chair whenever he showers or go to bed... well, basically, all he can do on his own is: with a lot of effort, talk, eat chips with one of his hands, brush his teeth and shave. But he has the most amazing smile when a girl counselor dances with him or when he does outdoor activities like the zipline in this picture.❤
I'm sharing this because I want you to think twice before you complain about stupid things. I want you to realize how amazing it is to be able to walk, run, speak clearly, listen, to be able to use your own hands to do whatever you want. Be grateful for that! And last, but not least important, live your life to the fullest, go after your dreams and goals, regret nothing... you never know when a tool can fall in your head. ? #peace
