This is my grandfather. This Nov 11th, He turned 99 years old. (99 on 11.11!) He had been working at his factory until age 97 when he broke his hip bone and put him in wheelchair temporarily, and even then, he wanted to go back to work so he went to rehab and now he walks again. Right before he was born, his father (my great grandfather) sank to the bottom of the sea with his own ship. He was the captain of the fishing ship, and since as the captain he had strong emotional connection and pride for his ship, and apparently since they would never find him if he was separated from the ship, he tied himself to the mast of the ship and sank with it, and that was how he was found. So my grandfather never knew his father. His mother (my great grandmother) remarried and abandoned my grandfather when he was 8. So he became orphan, and raised by relatives. At age 15, he started working as a carpenter. And he went to war at age 18. Apparently, he used to often say that the time of war was the easiest time of his life up till then, and even though he never complained, obviously because his life hadn't been easy. Then, he started working at die-cast metal factory and eventually took it over, and he had worked for 80 years straight. I think my mannerism and even how I dress is based on my idea of him. I respect this man. And the thing I respect him most is, despite the fact he had pretty tough life (or maybe because of it), as long as I can remember, he has always been gently smiling like in this picture. And he still is.
