“A woman in a black dress walked out with a little boy in a sailor suit. I asked if she was lost, and she gave me a harsh look. They walked past me and when I turned around, they were gone.” —The graveyard shift guards at LACMA have reported seeing a woman in a black dress and her young son wandering around the museum at night. One day, a curator overheard them talking about it and led them to a gallery. She pointed to this John Singer Sargent portrait and asked, “Is this them?” The answer was yes.
