Photo and caption by @petekmuller. A giraffe stands patiently before my camera during an evening game drive in Kenya's famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. In my experience, giraffes are among the more skittish creatures on the savanna, often taking flight well ahead of human encroachment. While giraffes timidness is understandable, their hasty departures leave me disappointed as they are, undoubtedly, one of my favorite animals. Regal and seemingly genteel, giraffes possess and endearing combination of grace and humility that always leave me mesmerized. This particular giraffe differed from nearly all I'd seen before in that despite our close proximity, she moved toward rather than away from me. It felt as though she was a consenting participate in a portrait session. She assumed a near perfect distance, posed comfortably for about three minutes, and carried on. While I'm certainly projecting my own excitement onto the situation, it was a rather special moment for me. #wildlife #animals #giraffe #Kenya #safari #Africa #conservation #maasaimara
