The Sydney Opera House was opened on this day in 1973. This timber model from our collection illustrates the origin of the roof geometry. The four ‘triangular’ segments of the model can be arranged into the now iconic form of the Sydney Opera House. The meridian lines show the consistently repeated shape of the ribs, so essential to the building’s construction.
