In California for a meeting today, and these pages in my hand contain the creative concepts for a project I have been working on this year.... I am a big believer in the power of the universe, in the science of it. It is made up entirely of energies and frequencies, as are we as human beings. As humans, we project energies through everything we do; through words, thoughts and intentions.
When I was 16 years old, I remember vividly having the thought that one day I would LOVE to design jewellery for a certain brand. At 16 I didn't even know I was interested in a career in design, i was making jewellery for friends at school and after school, I was working in a surf store (Inner Vision surf and skate in Port Macquarie!). It was 1997 and I had a love of oxided sterling silver jewellery that typically featured swirl shaped metals, garnet, amethyst or moonstones, and often featured butterflies or dolphins (you know exactly what I'm talking about!) that my friends and I, would save all our money to buy from a shop in Port Macquarie called 'Out of Asia' - we would spend hours trying to choose the perfect piece to add to our collection, and as we only had probably $15, the choice HAD to be strategic!
It was definitely not lost on me, that 18 years after having that thought as a 16 year old, I had the opportunity earlier this year to meet with this company to discuss an interest they had in working with me. They. Had. An. Interest. In. Working. With. Me. (!) I wish I was able to tell my 16 year old self.
So with the collection for them all designed, today this company I have admired all these years, and I met again, and spoke about some really exciting activation concepts, that resonate with me with such authenticity, that I truly cannot wait to share this collaboration, that is far more the just a jewellery collection.
It's a sound reminder to me, to put your energy behind things you want in life, and work your ass off to make yourself as eligible, educated, versed and ready for when that opportunity crosses your path.
