Photograph by @jimrichardsonng | Ranchers in the Sandhills region of Nebraska looked up with a mixture of dread and awe as thunderclouds rolled in. Storms out here on the Great Plains come in many shades and this nasty shade of green meant serious business in a dry land that’s always hungry for rain but fearful of hail and tornados. The Sandhills are ancient dunes that soak up rain, but the thin skin of soil is tender and easily hurt. Such are the hopes and worries of ranchers.
