Photo by @Cory Richards. A Bon Lama plays a horn as part of a puja or religious ceremony, this one focused on the divination of the year to come. The ceremony culminates with removing a hardened layer of butter floating atop Chang, one of several traditional alcohols, and then drinking it from a skull cup of a deceased Lama. Bon is the animistic religion that predates Tibetan Buddhism on the Tibetan Plateau...and lends much of its texture the Tibetan Buddhism we recognize today.
