Martin: "You don’t have any shoes?"
Javier: "No, not really."
M: "Where are you from?"
J: "I’m from New Mexico. I’m from an Indian reservation."
M: "Which one?"
J: "Apache White Mountain. I’m full Apache."
M: "How long ago did you leave?"
J: "When I was twelve."
M: "That young?"
J: “Yeah."
M: "Why did you leave?"
J: "I started like getting depressed and not talkative with my family. I don’t have a good relationship with my family."
M: "Did they not approve of you as a kid?"
J: "No, my sexuality. So I just left."
M: "You came out as gay and they couldn’t deal with it? Have you seen them since you left?"
J: “No."
M: "Never been back?"
J: “No."
M: "How old are you now?"
J: “24."
M: "You still look like a baby. You’ve been on the street ever since?"
J: "Yeah since twelve."
M: "Do you have a group you hang out with, some people you can rely on?"
J: "I hang around with a bunch of skateboarders and…"
M: [Noticing a fresh injection wound] "You’re shooting crystal?"
J: "No. I do H and I smoke meth."
M: "Isn’t heroine the opposite of meth? I mean it really makes you mellow and chill, right? And meths just wind you up."
J: “Yeah.”
M: "It sounds like a crazy combination."
J: "It is. It brings you up and brings you down and then it’ll bring you back up and bring you back down."
M: "You’ve got to try to stop that shit. Such a handsome young guy out here, man, breaking my heart. You gotta get away from H.” .
