During the 1988 vice presidential debate, #Republican candidate Dan Quayle tried to link himself to the legacy of former President John F. Kennedy, but the comparison did not sit well with his #Democratic rival, Texas Senator Lloyd Bentsen.

Although Quayle was on the winning ticket in November, Bentsen’s line became a part of political and pop culture history.
