“I used to do a salon for Miu Miu, called Miu Miu Musings, which we held with people like @andreltalley, Dasha Zhukova and @tavitulle. It was just about having conversations with each other, and starting a dialogue – the first one that we did was in New York with Andre, and the starting point was just the question, ‘What is fashion?’ Then, in Moscow we spoke about women, liberty, their clothes and their freedom - the one that we did in London was called ‘The Pace of Fashion.’ I keep thinking about that one at the moment, because we were having conversations about ‘see now, buy now’ before that was really a term, but it already felt like things were going too fast and the world was becoming kind of schizophrenic and nobody really knew what they were doing – I suppose it’s the impact of technology disrupting everything. Mrs Prada called the people at the salons the fashion intelligencia – and she was right! I realise now, being back home in Saint Lucia where that culture doesn’t exist in the same way, that when you’re working in fashion you’re so involved with the world intellectually – not just in the clothes that come down a runway, but what precedes them, what’s going on in the world politically, art-wise, in music. People in fashion do pay attention; it’s so easy to make fun of ourselves and say it’s not serious, but designers are able to come up with all of this creativity because they’re sort of nomads, travelling all over the globe and picking up bits of what’s going on.” . @shalamonroque for #girlinmiumiu, interview by @oliviajsinger (part 2 of 9) ? @jonasunger
